This Coffee Drink Is So Strong, Starbucks Won’t Sell You A Venti

A regular cup of joe used to do the trick, but with the rise of artisanal coffee, more people are opting for fancier drinks like lattes and cold brews, which means coffee chains have to keep upping the ante. And it seems that Starbucks is doing just that.

In 2016, Starbucks released the Nitro Cold Brew, a spin on the classic cold brew. The twist here is that nitrogen is added for a smooth, creamy texture, almost like that of a dark beer.

The drink comes out cold from the tap, and no ice is needed. The taste is described as chocolatey, and the nitrogen is said to naturally sweeten the the drink.

If you’re sensitive to caffeine, beware: The caffeine content of the Nitro Cold Brew clocks in at 245 milligrams for a 12-ounce cup. According to PopSugar, Starbucks can’t even sell the drink in a Venti cup, as it tops the daily recommended limit of 400 milligrams of caffeine.

The Nitro Cold Brew was debuted select Starbucks stores in Seattle, and then rolled out to stores across the country.
