For A Limited Time, McDonald’s Will Replace Happy Meal Toys With Books
Now this is something I can totally support. Between now and February 15th, McDonald’s will replace its Happy Meal toys with books.
But why? It’s part of a McDonald’s partnership with the program, Reading is Fundamental. Carol Rasco, the President and CEO of the program told LA Times,
“Reading Is Fundamental is pleased to partner with McDonald’s again this year and provide much-needed books to children who have limited access to them.Books are the building blocks for a better future. They foster the imagination, expand our understanding of the world and fuel a lifelong love of learning. We’re pleased McDonald’s is helping millions of children discover the joy of reading.”
For the books to be able to fit in the box, the literature will be scaled down to a smaller size (about 4×5″), but not lose any of their charm. The books that children could expect to get are:
- Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day Is Cool, by Kimberly and James Dean
- Paddington, by Michael Bond
- Clark the Shark Takes Heart, by Bruce Hale
- Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond
This is the third year that McDonald’s has done this campaign (2013, 2015, 2016). By the end of this year’s giveaway, McDonald’s will have handed out 50 million books. This is such a great cause – and I’m lovin’ it.
