Here’s How To Make Your Own Lemon Citronella Candles

Twine and Table

When the weather is nice, you likely want to spend as much time as possible outside, whether it’s having an afternoon picnic or an evening barbecue. Nothing is worse than spending time outdoors only to end up covered in pesky mosquito bites.

When it comes to warding off those evil bugs, you’ve likely purchased a citronella candle before, as the oil is a natural mosquito repellant. However, there’s no need to spend money on these candles when you can make your own version at home using real lemon and citronella oil. These candles not only do the trick when it comes to getting rid of bugs, but they happen to look cute — and are all-natural as well.

This awesome instructional is from Twine and Table, and it’s pretty simple to do. All you need is organic beeswax, lemons, wooden wicks, newspaper and a double boiler. Here’s a quick rundown:

Step 1: Peel the lemons and remove the flesh while you melt beeswax in your double boiler.

Step 2: Add citronella oil (about one drop per cup of beeswax) into the melted wax, affix a wick to the bottom of each lemon peel with a drop of the wax, then fill up the rest of the rind with beeswax.

Step 3: Let your cute citrus candles cool and harden overnight.

Step 4: Light the candles and get rid of those irksome mosquitos.
