Lunchbox Hacks: 6 Brilliant Tips and Tricks

Packing a lunch for your kids can be a monotonous and tedious process, not to mention after all that hard work, sometimes they come home with abundant leftovers or complain about their food being too cool or lukewarm.

Luckily, neither you or your kids has to suffer from lunchbox blues if you happen to use some clever tips and tricks to not only make life easier for you when you’re packing lunch, but that makes their lunchbox experience that much more exciting.

1. Make A Snack Station

Are your kids complaining that they don’t get the snacks they like? Every Sunday, set up a snack station and allow your kids to assemble 5 single-serving snacks for themselves. They can choose to have the same thing everyday, or mix and match snacks to their choosing.

2. Freeze Drinks And Use Them As Ice Packs

Why waste extra space using ice packs when you can kill two birds with one stone? Freezing a juice box will not only keep the food around it cold, but by the time lunch rolls around, it will have melted while remaining cool enough for your child to enjoy a nice cold beverage.

3. Make Personalized Lunch-Ables

If you like to serve your kids different snacks for lunch, consider purchasing some lunch boxes with divided compartments. They’re inexpensive and will keep you from worrying about your child’s sandwich sliding into their oranges.

4. Use Lemon Juice To Keep Fruit Fresh

No child wants to eat an apple that’s been pre-sliced only for it to be turned brown. Preserve your fresh fruit by squeezing a little bit of lemon juice over slices, which won’t alter the taste, but will keep your fruit from browning.

5. Make Ahead And Freeze

Preparing lunch every morning and night can get tiring, but meal prepping at the beginning of the week and freezing food can help take the load off during the weekdays. Make foods that keep well like PB & J, or even dinner leftovers, and stick them the freezer until you need them.

6. Use Wooden Spoons

Passion for Savings suggests to make your life a little easier (and worry less about utensils coming home) by buying disposable mini wooden spoons for yogurt, pudding packs, etc. They take up less space and are less likely to get broken than plastic ones – it’s a win-win.
