A New ‘Anne Of Green Gables’ Miniseries Is Coming To Netflix

Anne of Green Gables

“Anne of Green Gables” fans, brace yourselves! Anne, Gilbert, Diana, Matthew and Marilla are coming back to the small screen.

That’s right. A new ‘Anne of Green Gables’ miniseries will debut on Netflix in 2017.

The Netflix Original, simply titled “Anne,” will tell the story of Anne Shirley, an orphan girl who’s gone to live with an old woman, Marilla Cuthbert, and her brother, Matthew in 1890. The storyline will stay true to the 1908 novel (and hopefully the beloved 1985 TV miniseries as well!) and feature key characters such as Anne’s best friend, Diana Barry, and frenemy/future love, Gilbert Blythe. The show will also “chart new territory,” according to Netflix, as “Anne and the rest of the characters will experience adventures reflecting timeless issues including themes of identity, sexism, bullying, prejudice, and trusting one’s self.”

Real Simple reports that an all-female team is behind the eight-episode mini-series, and the project was adapted by Moria Walley-Beckett, one of the writers from “Breaking Bad.” A powerful female role written by a powerful female? Sign us up.

Filming is set to begin in September. If you were a fan of the novel or 1985 miniseries, get ready to relive your love for “Carrots” via Netflix next year.

If “Anne” is like any of the other original Netflix series, it’s going to be nothing short of amazing.
