This Terrifying Lightning Bolt Looks Like A Tyrannosaurus Rex

Hallie Larsen, National Park Service / U.S. Department of the Interior, Facebook

Capturing lightning on camera can be hauntingly beautiful. But sometimes it’s just haunting—for example when the bolt looks like a terrifying dinosaur ready to take a bite out of a rock formation.

Such was the case for a recent photo taken by Hallie Larsen, a National Park Service employee. The lightning bolt that struck at Blue Mesa in Arizona’s Petrified Forest looked like a Tyrannosaurus rex, and Facebook users went crazy over the image when the U.S. Department of the Interior shared it on their page.

The post’s been liked more than 13,000 times. One Facebook user even went so far as to Photoshop in a dinosaur that fit the outline of the lightning bolt.

Not all users saw a dinosaur; some commented that they saw a snake or even a heart-shaped balloon. But we think the image is pretty awesome—whether you see a dinosaur or otherwise.
