Toddler Helps Twin Brother Escape After Dresser Falls On Him

There’s nothing quite like a sibling bond, and never was that more true than in the case of a 2-year-old who help rescue his twin brother after a dresser fell on top of him.

In a video that has gone viral, 2-year-old Bowdy Shoff rescues his twin brother, Brock, after a dresser falls on him while the two are playing. A nanny cam captured the entire situation, which occurred before the parents were awake. Thankfully, neither child was harmed.

The twins’ father, Ricky, posted the video to Facebook in an attempt to highlight the extreme need for caution when installing large furniture in a child’s room. In an interview with CNN, Ricky says his wife Kayli woke up shortly after the situation and checked on the twins but “there wasn’t a scratch” on either of them.

In his post, Shoff says he was “hesitant” to share the video (the couple have received a number of parent-shaming responses as a result), but felt he had to as an important reminder of the security risks that come with putting large furniture in a child’s bedroom.

“Our house is very childproof. We are really cautious about all this stuff, so it never really crossed our minds that something like this could happen,” Shoff said to CNN.

Normally, he said, he and his wife can hear the twins playing in the morning, but that day they were quiet, so it wasn’t until they saw the footage that they knew something had happened.

According to Shoff, the dresser is made by Ikea. The furniture store made headlines in 2016 after it paid $50 million to the families of three boys killed by its Malm line of dressers. According to CNN, Ikea spokeswoman Mona Astra Liss is working to confirm whether Ikea made the dresser.

Over the summer, Ikea announced that it would be recalling recalling more than 100 lines of dressers, including the Malm. They offered customers refunds or free wall-anchoring kits. “We are so grateful for the bond that these twin brothers share,” Shoff wrote in his post. “We know Bowdy was not alone in moving the dresser off of Brock. And feel blessed that he is OK.”
