Here’s What To Do With That Old Laptop

You’ve probably gotten a few new laptops through the years, but what have you done with the old ones? Many people don’t know what to do with their old electronics—they don’t want them anymore, but they also don’t feel right tossing them in the trash—which means they’ve probably left their old laptops to collect dust and take up space in their storage closets.

Luckily, if you have an old laptop, you have a few options when it comes to deciding what to do with it. Here are some of your best choices:

1. Recycle It

Instead of dumping your laptop in the trash, look for electronic collection programs that will help you recycle it. You can find a list of organizations that will accept old laptops at TIA E-cycling Central, and you can also check places like Best Buy and Staples.

2. Sell It

If your laptop is in good condition, you can sell it on Craiglist or eBay. However, there is even a market for non-functioning electronics, so you might want to try listing your laptop on one of those sites anyway.

3. Trade It

In addition to selling your laptop, you can also trade it in to places like Amazon, Apple or Best Buy for gift cards. The amount you’ll get depends on the condition of your laptop, but it might be less work than trying to sell it on your own.

4. Donate It

Used electronics are always in demand, and why not help someone in need? Clear your hard drive and bring your computer to a number of charities that accept old electronics, including Goodwill, Komputers for Kids, eBay Giving Works, and more.

5. Turn It Into A Media Station

If you’re not willing to part ways with your computer just yet, use it as a way to play movies or store your music — as long as it’s still functioning, of course.
