It’s official — it’s going to be a great year for family movie releases. From big-screen adaptations of old cartoon favorites to Disney/Pixar features with big meanings, there’s something for everyone. Here are 10 of the hottest kids‘ picks to look forward to in 2020 — that grownups will love, too.
1. ‘Dolittle’ (Jan. 17)
Based on the classic children’s character created by Hugh Lofting, “Dolittle” stars Robert Downey Jr. as a veterinarian who has the ability to speak to animals. C-stars include Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen in live-action roles. The voice cast includes Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Selena Gomez and Marion Cotillard.
2. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ (Feb. 14)
“Sonic the Hedgehog” got off to a shaky start; in fact, fans hated the original trailer so much, the entire movie was redesigned, pushing its release date back by several months. It’s almost time to see the revamped Sonic, plus his nemesis Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey.

3. ‘Onward’ (March 6)
Tom Holland and Chris Pratt are the voices of two teenage elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot, in “Onward.” The two elves go looking for the magic they hope will let them spend one last day with their dad, who died when they were young. Produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures, it also features the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer.
4. ‘Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway’ (April 3)
What better way to celebrate Easter than with another installment of the world’s cheekiest rabbit and his farmyard friends? “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” brings back James Corden as the voice of Peter Rabbit and Rose Byrne in her live-action role as Bea.
5. ‘Scoob!’ (May 15)
Zoinks! The world’s favorite canine sleuth is back, bringing Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred and Velma — plus, of course, the evil Dick Dastardly — to the big screen. The voice cast includes Zac Efron, Will Forte, Gina Rodriguez, Amanda Seyfried and Jason Isaacs. Frank Welker returns as the beloved Great Dane.
6. ‘Soul’ (June 19)
Another Pixar for Disney production, “Soul” tells the story of a middle-school music teacher who dreams of playing at legendary New York jazz club The Blue Note. Voices include Jamie Foxx, Daveed Diggs, Tina Fey and Phylicia Rashad.
7. ‘Bob’s Burgers’ (July 17)
Fans of the Fox animated TV series “Bob’s Burgers” have waited a long time for a big-screen adaption, and it’s almost here. The show’s creator Loren Bouchard tweeted in February that the film will explain the origin of Louise’s pink bunny ears, and voice actor John Roberts (Linda) said the film will continue the musical tradition of many of the TV episodes, per CNET.

Dame Judi Dench as the leader of a fairy police force? Yes, please. The movie adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s beloved book series, directed by Kenneth Branagh, follows a 12-year-old criminal mastermind (up-and-coming Irish actor Ferdia Shaw) as he wages an epic battle with the ancient fairy world.
9. ‘The One and Only Ivan’ (Aug. 14)
Get your tissues ready for the tale of Ivan, a uniquely-talented gorilla who lives with other animals at a suburban shopping mall. Disney’s “The One and Only Ivan,” based on the award-winning children’s book of the same name by K.A. Applegate, features the voices of Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie, Danny DeVito and Helen Mirren.
