10 Secrets That Will Help You Save Even More Money At Target
If you aren't using this tips, you're wasting money!
Target – it’s a mega-hit retailer that has grown into a coveted shopping favorite. If you aren’t obsessed with Target, then odds are, somebody you know is. And for good reason.
As the second-largest general merchandise retailer in the United States, they sell everything from beauty products to groceries to sporting equipment, so there is always something for everybody.
The best part, however, is their discounts.
Target promises low prices with their “Expect More. Pay Less.” slogan, and as a fellow Target customer, it is definitely appreciated. However, I’m always one to try and find new ways to save as much money as possible.
Trendy products, discounted prices and a full wallet? Bullseye. Here’s 10 secrets to help you save even more at checkout:
1. Print Out Web Coupons
I’m definitely guilty of taking spontaneous trips to Target and meandering around their aisles.
However, a quick look at Target’s website will bring you to a page of coupons that can provide hundreds of dollars in savings. For example, when I pulled up the website, there were 370 coupons available with a total of $559.01 in savings.
2. Keep A Schedule
Take one lap around the store, and you’ll see that Target has many items on clearance.
What you may not know is that the retailer keeps a specific schedule for marking down those clearance prices, with certain departments giving discounts on certain days. Here is the schedule for each department:
Monday – Accessories, Baby, Books, Electronics, Kids Clothing, Stationary
Tuesday – Domestics, Market Food Items, Pets, Women’s Clothing
Wednesday – Diapers, Furniture, Health and Beauty, Lawn/Garden Items, Men’s Clothing
Thursday – Decor, Housewares, Lingerie, Luggage, Shoes, Sporting Goods, Toys
Friday – Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, Jewelry
3. Download The Target App
A convenient source for coupons is the free Target app, available for Apple and Android.
Find the Weekly Ad, which is full of coupons, and browse through Cartwheel, another app that Target has launched specifically for discounts. (More on Cartwheel below.)
Other useful features in the Target app: Finding the Target location nearest you, starting a shopping list, even placing an order for checkout.
4. Use Cartwheel By Target
Cartwheel by Target is another free smartphone app that offers savings on items anywhere from five to 50 percent off. It one-ups the typical paper coupon because Cartwheel coupons come in the form of a QR code that can be scanned directly from your phone – no scissors needed. To learn more, you can download the app, sign into your account via Facebook or go to cartwheel.target.com.
5. Sign Up For Mobile Discounts
Yet another way to receive discounts is through Target’s mobile coupons. If you choose to opt-in to these coupons, they will arrive right to your phone via text message every other Saturday. Once you find a coupon you want to use, just show it to the cashier and he or she will scan the barcode seen at the top, so again, no scissors. Sign up here.
6. Combine Your Coupons
In addition to all of these options for coupons, Target also offers coupons via various manufacturers. Even better, Target’s coupon policy specifies that, per item, you are allowed to combine one saving from the Cartwheel app, one mobile/web/app coupon and one manufacturing coupon. Using three coupons to save money on one item can really add up – and in some cases, can get you the item for free!
7. Take A Closer Look At The Price Tag
When an item is put on clearance, Target will put an orange tag on it with the old and new prices displayed. If the new price ends in $0.06 or $0.08, there is a chance that it will be marked down again, as long as there is inventory still in the store. It will typically remain at its current discount for a two-week period. If the new price ends in an $0.04, the item has already been marked for final clearance, meaning that this price is the lowest that Target will sell it.
8. Utilize Its Price Match Guarantee
Target’s policy states that it will match the price of an item sold within 14 days of purchase if:
- The identical item is found cheaper on Target’s website.
- The identical item is found cheaper on select online competitors.
- The identical item is found cheaper on Target’s or a competitors local printed or digital ad.
9. Bring Your Own Bags For A Small Discount
For every bag that you bring in to use, Target will give a $0.05 discount. That may not sound like a lot, but if you bring in a handful of bags every time you go in and you shop there regularly, this discount could really add up.
And a $0.05 discount for using what you already have is better than no discount, right? Plus, you can feel good knowing that you took a little step towards a more sustainable and green lifestyle.
10. Shop For Target Merchandise At Goodwill
Ever wonder what happens with the Target merchandise that nobody buys after it’s already gone to clearance?
According to mommysavers.com, all of those items are donated to Goodwill. So if you think that you’ve missed Target’s lowest markdowns on it clearance items, try going to Goodwill.
