Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West recently welcomed their third child via surrogate. Due to complications with her first two pregnancies, Kardashian West elected to use a surrogate (or, technically, a gestational carrier) when the couple decided to have another child.

While we’re used to reading about celebrity “baby bumps,” surrogacy is actually pretty common in Hollywood as well.

Here are 15 famous couples who used a surrogate to carry their bundle of joy.

Supermodel Tyra Banks and husband Erik Asla welcomed their baby son, York, via surrogate in 2016.

2. Sarah Jessica Parker And Matthew Broderick

Hollywood couple Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are parents to twins Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, who were born via surrogate in June 2009. The girls joined big brother Wilkie.

“Well, you know, we’ve been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so,” Parker explained of the couple’s struggles to conceive for a second time, during an appearance on the Today Show. “This was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us.”

3. Neil Patrick Harris And Adam Burtka

Actors Neil Patrick Harris and Adam Burtka also became dads to twins thanks to help from a surrogate and an egg donor.

“We found an egg donor anonymously through a hilarious process of looking at people’s profiles and then an amazing surrogate who had helped a same-sex couple before,” Harris told People in 2011. “And then we inserted two eggs, one with my sperm, one with David’s and they both took.”

4. Jimmy Fallon And Nancy Juvonen

Funny man Jimmy Fallon and his wife, producer Nancy Juvonen, have two kids together: 3-year-old Frances Cole and 4-year-old Winnie Rose, both of whom were carried via surrogate.

“My wife and I had been trying a while to have a baby,” Fallon explained of the couple’s struggle with infertility during an appearance on Today. “We tried a bunch of things—so we had a surrogate.”

Actor Kelsey Grammer and his now-ex-wife, Camille, had two children via a surrogate—Jude Gordon, 13 and Mason Olivia, 16.

“I wish I could have had that experience. I’m just so grateful I had a wonderful surrogate who carried our two children,” Camille wrote in a 2012 blog.

6. Angela Bassett And Courtney B. Vance

Actors Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance turned to surrogacy after a battle with infertility, and were blessed with twins Slater Josiah and Bronwyn Golden, born in 2006.

After talking with a friend who had used a surrogate, Bassett realized it could work for her, too, telling Oprah, “The more we learned about it, the more we began to think that perhaps this was an answer for us.”

7. George Lucas And Mellody Hobson

Star Wars creator George Lucas and businesswoman Mellody Hobson welcomed a daughter, Everest, via surrogate in 2013. Lucas also has three grown children, who were all adopted.

8. Bill And Giuliana Rancic

TV personality Giuliana Rancic and her entrepreneur husband, Bill, have shared the ups and downs of their lives with the public, including career changes, cancer, infertility and miscarriage. In 2012, they became parents to their son, Edward Duke, carried via surrogate.

9. Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban

Actress Nicole Kidman and her country-star husband, Keith Urban, have two children together: 9-year-old Sunday Rose and 6-year-old Faith Margaret. While Kidman was able to carry and deliver Sunday Rose, the couple used a surrogate to carry Faith.

“I’m one of the few people in the world who has experienced so many different forms of motherhood,” Kidman said on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Kidman is also mom to Isabella and Conor, whom she adopted with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

Actress Elizabeth Banks and her producer and writer husband, Max Handelman, have two children via surrogate: 6-year-old Felix and 4-year-old Magnus.

“It was a womb issue for me. Embryos wouldn’t implant,” Banks explained of her inability to carry children.

Acting legend Robert De Niro and his wife, Grace Hightower, welcomed their daughter, Helen Grace Hightower, via surrogate in 2011.

“There are great moments and moments of sadness,” he told People of fatherhood. “Sometimes you’re the last person they want to deal with. It’s like when you walk your kids to school and they get older and they don’t want to hold your hand or kiss you goodbye.”

12. Ellen Pompeo And Chris Ivery

“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo and husband Chris Ivery welcomed daughter Sienna May via surrogate in 2014. Pompeo gave birth to her first daughter, Stella, in 2009, and decided to keep the surrogacy process fairly private.

“This is an incredible thing to do with your life, to give the gift of carrying someone’s child. I am forever grateful and feel very blessed and grateful to her—she who will remain anonymous. I was there with her when they inseminated her, and we held hands,” Pompeo told Jimmy Kimmel.

13. Elton John And David Furnish

Musician Elton John and filmmaker David Furnish used a surrogate to make their dream of becoming parents a reality. They have two sons: Elijah Joseph and Zachary Jackson. They used the same surrogate for both births and now consider her part of the family.

14. Chris And Deanna Daughtry

Musician Chris Daughtry and his wife, Deanna, turned to surrogacy after she underwent a partial hysterectomy, leaving her unable to carry children. In 2010, they welcomed twins, Adalynn and Noah, who joined big brother and sister Hannah and Griffin.

“Our family is overwhelmed with joy by these two precious gifts from God. The babies are both healthy and resting. Thanks to everyone for their love and prayers,” Daughtry wrote on his website at the time.

15. Jordana Brewster and Andrew Form

Actress Jordana Brewster and her husband, Andrew Form, have had two children together via surrogate: 2-year-old Julian and 1-year-old baby brother Rowan.

“So sometimes I feel a little left out when other moms talk about what their birth experience was like, and I feel the loss of not having carried or having been able to carry. But luckily I keep my circle tight and close, so I never feel judged,” Brewster told Yahoo Parenting.
