Here’s Where You Can Splurge On 24K Gold Chicken Wings

There was a time when chicken wings and 24-karat gold had nothing in common. That was before The Ainsworth restaurant in New York City decided to team up with Jonathan “Foodgōd” Cheban to create what could be the most over-the-top bar food ever: 24-karat gold chicken wings.

These chicken wings are made like most others: The wings are brined for half a day, coated with a house-made dry rub, baked and flash fried. But the kicker? These babies are dusted with a layer of edible gold powder. You can get 10 wings for $45 or 20 for $90.

If you’re really feeling fancy, you can splurge on 50 gold wings, and wash them down with a bottle of Ace of Spades Champagne. Sound familiar? That’s Jay-Z’s champagne brand. This royal experience will set you back $1,000.

Would you do it? Perhaps the better question is: Why?

“We wanted to create something over-the-top that’s never been done before, and you’ve never seen or tasted anything like it before,” Brian Mazza, president of Paige Hospitality (which owns The Ainsworth), explained to CNN.

Not a fan of chicken wings? Not a problem. In recent years, many uber-luxe, gold-coated treats have been released and they rival even your most grandiose pieces of jewelry. From pizza to ice cream, it seems like any of your favorite foods can be turned to gold.

Anyone else wondering what a slice of a $2,000, 24-karat-leaf-topped pizza would taste like? This masterpiece is from New York City’s Industry Kitchen.

This 24-karat gold-topped gelato “burger” looks like it’d be delicious with or without the gold. Orange County’s Tap Gelato went all out with this limited-edition dessert.

The New York City matcha cafe, Matcha ‘n More, has also gotten in on the gold-plated icy treats game with their matcha soft-serve coated in edible gold, available for a surprisingly reasonable $9:
