If you’re looking for adorable treats to whip up this Valentine’s Day, these brownies made from scratch are a perfect option. And using only 5 ingredients, they’re actually quite simple to make!

Watch this video to see how these romantic treats are made, and then check out the detailed recipes below!

You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°.

In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, flour and cocoa powder. In a separate bowl, whisk together the two eggs and melted butter. Add the egg mixture to the bowl with the flour mixture and blend until there are no clumps and the batter is smooth. I used an electric mixer set on medium speed for two minutes.

Add mixed batter to a greased 9″ x 9″ baking pan and smooth. Bake for 25 minutes, then allow the brownies to cool for 5 minutes before cutting. Easy enough, right?

Now comes the fun part. Here are four fun ways to decorate those brownies for Valentine’s Day!

1. Candy Arrow Heart Brownies

You’ll Need:

  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • Decorative icing
  • Sprinkles
  • Thin wood skewers
  • Candy gummy hearts

Instructions:

Using a cookie cutter, you’ll first want to cut your brownies into heart shapes.

Then, using the decorative icing, draw lines on the tops of the brownies. While the icing is still moist, add a pinch of sprinkles. For the icing, I used Wilton’s Decorative Pink Icing and I used Betty Crocker’s Cupcake Gems for the sprinkles on top.

Next, you’ll want to cut ‘V’ shapes into the top of half of your red gummy hearts to resemble the end of an arrow.

Slide the wooden skewer through the brownies at a diagonal, then add gummy hearts to either side of the skewers.

2. Powdered Sugar Heart Brownies

You’ll need:

  • Red icing
  • Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions:

Once your 9″ x 9″ pan of brownies have cooled, cut them into four squares. Ice the brownies with red icing. Cut heart shapes in various sizes from the cardstock, making sure that they’ll be able to fit on the tops of the brownies.

Then, place your heart cutouts on top of the iced brownies and generously sprinkle the powdered sugar on top. Carefully remove the paper heart cutouts. Just to note, if powdered sugar happens to get underneath the cutouts, you can use a small paintbrush dipped in water to clean up the lines. Just make sure not to use too much water!

3. Icing And Candy Heart Brownies

You’ll need:

  • Chocolate Icing
  • Candy Hearts

Instructions:

These little decorative brownies are super simple to decorate, meaning this would be a great Valentine treat for kids to help make!

After icing the heart-shaped brownies with a generous amount of icing, place the heart candies on top any way you’d like. With the smaller candies, I just outlined the heart-shaped brownie. With the larger heart candies I found at Michael’s Arts & Crafts store, I just made a line of three hearts down the middle of the brownie.

4. Strawberry Heart Brownies

To create the little Strawberry Heart Brownies, all you need is a small knife and strawberries!

Instructions:

Slice one side off of a strawberry and set the rest of it aside. Lay the side of the strawberry on a flat surface and carefully cut it into a heart shape. How many hearts you can cut out of a strawberry will depend on the size of it, but if it’s an average size, you should be able to get two hearts out of each one.

Once all of your heart strawberries are cut out, place one in the center of each of your heart-shaped brownies and that’s all there is to it!

Enjoy!
