4 Tips To Make Painting Less Messy

We’ve partnered with Homemadesimple.com, a Procter & Gamble brand, to bring you some of our favorite home and beauty tips, advice and expertise.

Painting is messy and cleaning is a pain, but the end result is always worth it. Check out these simple tips for making indoor painting a little simpler.

1. No-Mess Cans

Tired of paint glopping all down the sides of the cans? Before you start painting, wrap a rubber band around the open can from top to bottom. Dip your brush in and wipe the excess paint from your brush on the band instead of the can’s edge.

2. Next Day Brushes

If your painting project requires more than one day, don’t wash your brushes out just to start all over again tomorrow! Wrap your still-wet brushes in plastic bags and wrap those in tin foil. This locks the moisture in and keeps your brushes from getting all crusty.

3. Painting Without the Mess

Keep the paint from getting all over your hands. Slip a plastic lid (yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, etc.) on the brush handle under the brush. This will keep the drips from coming down onto your hands!

4. Trim, Trim, Trim

If you’re trimming a small area, skip the painter’s tape. Use a piece of cardboard or anything portable with a hard edge to use as the guide to create a straight line.
