These Are The 5 Most Popular Netflix Shows In The Entire World
Is your favorite on the list?
At any given moment, tens of thousands of people are binge-watching their way through a season of something on Netflix. So what are they all watching?
A team of researchers at HighSpeedInternet.com decided to solve the mystery once and for all. They analyzed Google Trends data to rank countries by their number of Netflix-related searchers. Then they cross-referenced those rankings with the most-searched show in that country to figure it out.
Each country has its own unique content, of course, but some shows are just universally popular. The researchers found that everyone likes political intrigue, mysteries—and Ross and Rachel. Here’s the list of the most-watched Netflix shows around the world:
5. “New Girl”
Fox’s “New Girl” rounds out the top five. The cute comedy focuses on the life of Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a teacher who moves into a Los Angeles apartment with three male roommates.
You might not be surprised by these results, but it’s fun to know what people around the world are watching. And don’t forget to catch up on “House of Cards” before that trip to Berlin!
4. “House of Cards”
Netflix’s groundbreaking original series comes in right after “Narcos.” The political drama, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, is the most watched show in countries like Germany and Switzerland.
The Netflix original that takes creative license with the life of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar is the world’s third-most-watched series. Interestingly enough, though, it’s not Colombia’s most popular show.
Coming in second, to nobody’s surprise, is the classic U.S. sitcom “Friends.” Netflix has all 10 seasons of the beloved series, so you never have to miss “The One With” whatever you want to see. “Friends” is a popular show with people trying to learn English, which probably helps its global ranking.
BBC’s “Sherlock” is the most popular show among Netflix’s approximately 70.5 million subscribers. The series features Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, solving crimes in present-day London.
