5 Reasons Why You Need To Wash Your Makeup Brushes More Often

Are your make-up brushes looking a little dirty? Let’s be honest. When was the last time you washed them? A month ago? Several months ago? It’s time to get scrubbing.

Not washing your brushes can lead to a host of skin issues, and can ultimately ruin the brush. Don’t be stuck with acne, because you forgot to rinse your brushes. Many dermatologists recommend washing your brushes at least once a month, and spot treat your brushes weekly. It may seem like a hassle, but it’s great for your skin (and your brushes) over time. If that isn’t enough to convince you, here are five other reasons that you need to regularly wash your makeup brushes.

1. They can hold bacteria

Makeup brushes touch your face, your makeup, your vanity, etc. There can be a lot bacteria just on those places alone. Overtime, your makeup brushes could gather a lot of nasty germs that don’t belong anywhere near your face. Do yourself and your face a favor by giving your brushes a good scrubbing.

2. They can change your makeup’s color

Over time, dirty makeup brushes can affect your desired makeup look. If you don’t clean your brushes, past colored pigments can cling to the bristles, which can discolor any other shadows. For instance, if you did a dark smokey eye one day, and use the brush for a more neutral look afterwards, you may not get the color payoff you want. Not cleaning your brushes isn’t worth the future mess.

3. It won’t function correctly

How is a buffing brush going to buff anything into your skin if it’s clogged up with old makeup? Dirty brushes don’t work properly if they are caked in makeup. By cleansing out past makeup, you bring life back into your brushes. It sounds cheesy, but it really does make a world of difference.

4. They collect dead skin cells

Using brushes on your skin is actually a mild exfoliant. When you buff products into your skin, the brush collects any loose skin cells aka dead ones. Not washing this out overtime can lead to things like acne and wrinkles.

You spent money on your makeup brushes, so you should take care of them! Like any investment, they need maintenance in order to last. By not washing your brushes, you are actually shortening the amount of time that you can actually use the brush. Who needs that?
