8 Signs You Married Your Best Friend
Once you’ve moved past that “honeymoon phase” of your relationship, you begin to notice that what initially attracted you to your mate is only a very small part of the equation. The best relationships have a strong friendship as the foundation, and there’s research to prove it.
According to Romper, a study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research in Canada proved that out of the couples who participated, those who claimed their spouse was their best friend had the highest level of happiness.
In fact, they actually had double the happiness rate compared to couples who didn’t say their spouse was their best friend. So, if you’re wondering what the key to a long and happy marriage may be, definitely take your friendship status into account.
Whether you’re already married or just hope to settle down with your partner in the future, here are some ways to tell if you’re with your true best friend.
1. You Don’t Mind Doing Nothing Together
Not only do you not mind doing nothing together, you’d rather do nothing with your partner than do something with anyone else.
2. You Hate To Be Apart
When you are away from each other, you miss the other person. And probably still text/call them 1,000 times.
3. You Can Tell Them Anything
If you feel as though you can talk about your goals, your deepest secrets and more without judgment from your significant other, then they’re definitely best friend-status.
4. You Have Funny Nicknames Or Inside Jokes
If you and your lover basically have a secret language at this point, then, yeah. I think it’s safe to say you two are besties.
5. You Feel Like Yourself When You’re With Them
When you can truly let your guard down around this person and don’t feel the need to impress them by getting all dressed up or anything like that, then you’ve reached a serious friendship with your mate.
Your relationship has grown way past the nervous early phases, and it truly feels nice and freeing to just have your guard down and not feel embarrassed about anything around them. You know you’re with your best friend when being with that person not only makes you feel like yourself, but also makes you feel complete (yes, I mean it, as cliché as that is).
6. You Can Communicate Without Words
Chances are you and your spouse/bestie can have an entire conversation without speaking a word. He can tell just by the look on your face when you’ve had a bad day, and you can read him like a book as well. This makes planning surprise parties and keeping secrets from each other a challenge, but it makes your relationship that much more special.
7. You Treasure Their Advice
What’s a best friend if not someone you can go to for advice? Whether your spouse is there just to listen or to talk things through with you, there’s nothing better than knowing you have your best friend to help you make decisions.
8. You Argue And Still Love Each Other
Disagreements are an inevitable part of marriage. It’s how you approach and resolve them that matters. You may argue with your best friend, but at the end of the day you know deep down that you will work through it and forgive each other.
Yep, those are some major relationship goals right there. Now, go on and give your best friend a hug!
