I’m always looking for ways that I can cut down on my grocery bill, and if you are, too, then you’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of herbs and vegetables that you’ll never have to buy again. Well, maybe just one last time, depending on what your fridge is already stocked with.

If you’ve already got these items on hand, all you have to do is allow just a little time for these babies to grow, and you’ll have endless amounts of them without ever having to buy them at the market.

If you save the right parts of these foods, all you have to do is add them to a little water and voila, you’ve got yourself a plant that will keep producing more of the same foods you love to eat and cook with.

Check out which veggies and herbs you’ll be able to permanently check off of your grocery list:

1. Carrots

Instead of throwing the ends of the carrots away, use them to grow more carrots.

2. Onions

All you have to do is plant the root of an onion in potting soil and wait.

3. Potatoes

You can grow your own potato plant with any type of potato.

4. Garlic

When garlic starts to sprout, that’s when you can start the regrowing process by placing them in a glass of water.

5. Cilantro

Place a few sprigs in a glass of water and once they get long, plant the cilantro in a pot, and you’ve got your very own cilantro right at home.

6. Ginger

This isn’t an immediate process, but in about 8 to 10 months you can have more ginger after just planting the root in some soil.

With just a little extra effort, you can be saving money at the store and still enjoying your favorite flavors in everything you cook.
