Losing weight is a tricky game. Everything’s got to be just right. It’s all about balance. And if you’re doing one little thing wrong, that could be exactly what’s holding you back from dropping those last few el bees.

Maybe you’re not overeating sweets and things that you know are bad for you, but did you have one too many handfuls of almonds today? Because yes, it’s possible to overeat even the foods that are good for you. Moderation is key.

And that goes for everything. You can’t do too much cardio and not enough weight-lifting. See what I mean? Moderation, moderation, moderation.

Check out six common weight loss mistakes. If you find you’re making some of these, try adjusting your behavior to really see the pounds melt away.

1. The Wrong Mindset

If you think of yourself as being on a “diet” rather than looking at healthy eating as a lifestyle change, you’re going about this weight loss thing the wrong way. “When you’re in the ‘diet’ mentality, it’s more likely that you’ll go off your diet before you reach your goals,” Kate Martino, a physician assistant and weight loss coach told Prevention magazine. “It’s even more likely that, if you do lose weight, you’ll wonder what to do next,” she said.

2. Not Exercising Properly

You can’t just do cardio or just lift weights. You have to do a little of both to see optimum results. Cardio may help you drop calories, but it doesn’t help you to gain and tone muscles. So, the best recipe, as far as exercise is concerned, is to include a little bit of both types into your routine.

3. Not Eating Enough

Depriving your body of food isn’t always the best method, either. You’re hungry, but because you’re trying to lose weight, you deny yourself food. Kyra Williams, a weight loss coach, explained to Prevention that this can slow your metabolism and force your body to store fat.

4. Not Getting Enough Sleep

According to the Huffington Post, studies have shown that sleep deprivation can lead to over-eating and cravings for junk food. So, make sure you’re getting the amount of rest your body needs, especially while trying to lose weight.

5. Eating Too Much,  Even Of “Healthy” Foods

PopSugar points out that just because foods are healthy, doesn’t mean they are devoid of calories. So, make sure you’re eating the appropriate serving size of your favorite healthy snacks.

6. Not Drinking Enough Water

Water is good for so many reasons. Not only does it keep you hydrated, but it can also keep you feeling fuller longer. Even eating foods that are high in water content, such as cucumbers and watermelon. can make you feel full faster. Load up on the H2O, would you?
