You can ditch your pricey gym membership and save on gas by tapping into the thousands of free workout videos on YouTube. Sure, there are a few duds, but there are also hundreds of high-quality, professional videos of varying lengths, styles and disciplines.
Here are seven of our favorites.
1. Live Sonima
Calling all yogis (and aspiring yogis!), the Live Sonima channel has dozens of yoga classes, meditation sessions and breathing exercises to help you have a more mindful workout. This channel is an amazing resource created by the Sonima Foundation, which is working to bring health and wellness into the lives of underserved children across the country. You’ll find yoga poses for expectant mothers, workouts for people who are on their feet all day, warm-up stretches for golfers and tons of other clips.
2. Fitness Blender
Ask any Fitness Blender fan and they’ll tell you they’re inspired by Daniel and Kelli Segars, the husband-and-wife team who produce these no-nonsense workout videos. All Fitness Blender videos have a white background and no music so there are no distractions. The Segars have produced hundreds of videos (most of them don’t require any equipment) that range from 10 minutes to an hour in length. The best part? Kelli and Daniel are right there with you, breathing heavy when the workouts get tough.
3. Tone It Up
Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott launched Tone It Up in 2009 with just $3,000. Since then, the fit pair has created hundreds of YouTube videos, healthy recipes and a burgeoning fitness community. They’ve got workouts for your abs, arms and lower body, plus others featuring HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts and kickboxing.
If you’re a fan of listening to upbeat music while you break a sweat, look no further than the Blogilates channel. Many of the workouts feature POP Pilates, a unique blend of pop music and traditional Pilates moves created by fitness instructor Cassey Ho. She creates fun, daily playlists with names like “Muffintop Crush Day” and “Beautiful Bod Day.”
The BeFit team shares high-quality workouts from top trainers and fitness buffs, including Jillian Michaels, Denise Austin, Billy Blanks Jr. and Jane Fonda. You’ll find quick-hitting workouts for when you’re on the go, high-intensity “extreme” workouts and everything in between.
6. Amanda Russell
Amanda Russell got her start as a runner, but an injury sidelined her dreams of someday competing in the Olympics. Now she runs her Fit Strong and Sexy program, creating YouTube videos with quick workouts, total body workouts and workouts for pregnant women.
