8 Must-See Movies Coming Out This Summer

Atlas Entertainment

Film buffs and casual viewers alike know this: Summer is movie season. There’s no better way to cool off on a scorching day than in a dark movie theater. Plus, people actually have time to go see movies during the summer. But there are so many coming out, how can you pick which ones are worth seeing? We took the guesswork out of it for you. Here are eight can’t-miss summer movies.

1. “Wonder Woman”

Can I get a HECK YES for strong, female characters all over the silver screen this summer? HECK YES! Follow Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman as she prepares to put a stop to World War I…because, obviously. This is a feminist action movie that can hang with the best of them and will leave you on the edge of your seat.

2. “Ingrid Goes West”

Aubrey Plaza. Elizabeth Olsen. Mental instability. Sunglasses. What more could you want? (Answer: Nothing.) Follow the inimitable Audrey Plaza, who travels to California on a whim to meet social media influencer Elizabeth Olsen (and yes, she’s related to THOSE Olsen twins) and everything goes awry. I never pay money to see movies, but I will happily shell out for this one.

3. “All I See is You”

Starring Blake Lively (aka my perpetual girl crush) as a blind woman who regains her sight and realizes her husband is manipulating and lying to her. This romantic thriller is supposed to be Lively’s best performance to date…not including her years-long run on “Gossip Girl” which was a perfect show and nobody can convince me otherwise. Keep an eye out for the official trailer, expected to be released soon. To tide you over, here’s an exclusive clip from the Los Angeles Times.

4. “The Book of Henry”

This is one of the summer movies I’m personally most excited to see. Starring Jacob Tremlay, of “Room” fame, this is the story of a boy with an overactive imagination. Tremlay plays Henry, who is worried about his next-door neighbor (played by Maddie Ziegler) and begins to plot her escape in a book he’s writing. Then his mother, played by Naomi Watts, decides to put the plan into action. The cast is impeccable and the story will surely be riveting. A must-see.

5. “Logan Lucky”

Steven Soderburgh returns with “Magic Mike” co-star Channing Tatum in this rip-roaring action flick. Adam Driver (yes, the one on “Girls”) and Daniel Craig also feature in this NASCAR heist film. I’m not saying go see it to drool over all the eye candy, but…I mean…COME ON.

6. “It”

Stephen King’s seminal classic comes to life in this truly horrifying movie. If you like to be scared out of your seat, I’m sure this isn’t one to miss. I, however, won’t even be watching the trailer. Killer clowns just aren’t funny anymore.

7. “Atomic Blonde”

Like I said, this is the summer of butt-kicking female stars. Charlize Theron does her thing as the main character, an M16 spy who travels to Germany in pursuit of an espionage ring. The trailer alone will have you standing and cheering.

8. “Dunkirk”

Okay, so Harry Styles from One Direction is in this movie, but it actually seems like a solid film. For the war-action movie lovers, this one is about the evacuation of Dunkirk (duh) during World War II. Directed by Christopher Nolan and also starring Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy, this seems like it’ll be a solid hit, boy-band actor notwithstanding.
