Woman ran a mile in less than 6 minutes while 9 months pregnant

Makenna Myler, 28, of Heber, Utah, has been running competitively for more than a decade. Taking on a mile-run challenge probably doesn’t sound like a big deal for someone like her. But what if she ran that mile in under six minutes? Pretty impressive speed, right? Well, Myler did even better than that: She recently smashed the six-minute mile time during a run in her ninth month of pregnancy.

Myler’s husband, Mike, posted a video on TikTok showing his athletic wife running around a track. He made a bet with her back in month two of her pregnancy that if she could run the mile in less than eight minutes, he’d pay her $100.

At the start of the video, you can see Myler quickly pass by the camera held by her husband, who couldn’t help but remark on his wife’s pregnancy belly.

“That’s a big belly,” he said as she sped by.

The video, which has since gone viral with nearly 700,000 views so far, showed that not only did Myler beat the 8-minute cutoff time set by her husband, but she did it with more than two minutes to spare. Her total time was 5 minutes, 25 seconds.

TikTok commenters marveled at Myler’s speed, especially considering the fact she’s due to give birth any day.

“I could barely walk up the stairs without being heavily winded at 9 months,” commented Anna Moore. “She’s a rock star!”

Myler said the run wasn’t as easy as she made it look in the video.

“The weight really does a number on my cadence,” she told “Today.” “The first 2.5 laps were pretty comfy from training, but from there my form turned into more of an emperor penguin style — side to side as well as forward motion.”

Some people expressed concern with Myler’s run and wondered if that kind of running could be unhealthy for the expectant mom and unborn baby. Myler said she consulted with doctors throughout her pregnancy regarding her training.

“Both doctors I’ve worked with have been more than happy, and even encouraging with my regimen,” she said.

The mom-to-be shared in an Instagram post at @benzmakenz that she and her husband hope the new baby arrives by Halloween.

We’re hoping the baby takes after mom and has a safe and speedy delivery!
