This 90-Year-Old Woman Decided To Pass On Cancer Treatment And Take A Road Trip

Norma is an inspiration to all of us.  A few days after her husband of 67 years passed away, her doctor spotted a cancerous tumor on her uterus. This required surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

As Norma listened as the doctors describe the next steps for treatment, she responded:  “I’m 90 years old, I’m hitting the road.”

All settled in!

After talking with her family and doctors, she decided that she was going to enjoy her remaining time by travelling across the country with her son Tim, his wife Ramie and their dog.

Her doctor supported her decision:  “As doctors, we see what cancer treatment looks like every day. ICU, nursing homes, awful side effects and honestly, there is no guarantee she will survive the initial surgery to remove the mass. You are doing exactly what I would want to do in this situation. Have a fantastic trip!”

They’ve been on the road travelling together in their RV for six months and have explored a lot of the country.

Ramie told ABC News that “She’s getting healthier, I think, from eating well and being outside a lot. She’s breathing fresh air and getting to see new things all the time.”

There is a Facebook page called Driving Miss Norma dedicated to their adventures with some adorable photos of Norma living life. Here are some of my favorites:
