A ‘90210’ reboot with original cast members is in the works
Although 2018 is about to come to a close, the ’90s are still alive and well — at least on TV. The latest ’90s television show set to get a reboot is “Beverly Hills, 90210,” the popular primetime drama about a group of teens living in one of the country’s most exclusive zip codes. The original series ran from 1990 to 2000 on Fox.
The revival will feature a number of the series’ original cast members, including Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestly, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris. The new show comes from writers and executive producers Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini. The pair worked on a previous reboot of the show.
The project hasn’t been bought by a network yet, but is currently being shopped to both broadcast networks and streaming services.
There is no word on whether the new reboot will incorporate the events and storylines from the show that ran from 2008-2013. However, Entertainment Tonight reports that the actors will not be reprising their original roles. That should be quite the interesting twist for fans!
Several of the original “90210” actors were spotted having coffee together in Hollywood, further sparking speculation of what the new reboot has in store.
Notably absent from the lineup of returning cast members are Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty, who played main characters Dylan McKay and Brenda Walsh on the original series. Perry currently stars on the CW’s “Riverdale.”
“At this time, due to his current deal with ‘Riverdale,’ Luke Perry could only guest star on a potential ‘90210’ reboot, and could not be a series regular,” a production source on “Riverdale” told Entertainment Tonight.
Back in March, Tori Spelling stoked rumors of a reboot when she posted a photo of herself at CBS Studio Center on Instagram. In the caption, she tagged former castmate Jennie Garth.
“back2work great creative day yesterday with my #partnerincrime @jenniegarth #90210vibes #donnaandkellyforever #besties,” she captioned the photo, referencing their characters on the show.
