On Wednesday, Oct. 17, New Jersey mom Koebere Bull received a Facebook message from 20-year-old Dylan Jarrell, who told her he wanted her children to die because they are black. He used several racial slurs throughout the message and also described the ways in which he thought Bull’s children deserved to die.

In addition to the personal horror, Bull said she also worried about Jarrell’s potential threat to others. “Something in the back of my head was like, this isn’t right, like something’s not sitting well,” she said to WKYT.

Bull and her friends started to dig for information on who Jarrell was, and discovered that he lived in Kentucky. Bull then alerted Kentucky police of the contents of the message. Trooper Josh Satterly took that call and worked to immediately pursue an investigation.

State police commissioner Richard Sanders told WKYT that police reached Jarrell’s home just as he was backing out of his driveway “with the tools he needed to commit this heinous act.”

During a search, investigators discovered that Jarrell had a firearm, more than 200 rounds of ammunition, a Kevlar vest, a 100-round high capacity magazine and a detailed plan of attack on two Kentucky school districts.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that as a result of this investigation, we saved lives,” Sanders told WKYT. “He had the tools necessary, the intent necessary, and the only thing that stood between him and evil is law enforcement.”

Schools in Kentucky’s Anderson County canceled classes on Friday, Oct. 19, citing “a credible threat of violence” in their Facebook post.

As for Bull, she said she hopes that someone in the same situation would do the same thing “because, obviously, you never know.”
