Another throwback sitcom is getting a modern reboot. “Punky Brewster,” which ran on NBC from 1984 to 1986, is getting a sequel.

The original show starred Soleil Moon Frye as the titular character, a spirited young girl being raised by a foster father. In the reboot being developed by Universal Content Productions, audiences will catch up with Punky Brewster as a single mom of three who meets a young girl that reminds her of herself as a child.

The new “Punky Brewster” reboot is being written and executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida (“School of Rock,” “Grounded for Life”). Frye and original series creator David W. Dulcon will also serve as executive producers.

Frye’s starring role in the show launched her career as a child and adolescent actor. She went on to appear in other popular series in the 1990s, including “The Wonder Years,” “Saved by the Bell,” and “Friends.”

She also lent her voice for animated characters in “The Ren & Stimpy Show,” “Robot Chicken,” “Johnny Bravo,” and “Bratz.” From 2000 to 2003, she also starred as Roxie King, the roommate of Sabrina Spellman on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”

Frye took to Twitter to express excitement about the reboot:

“She is back! I am back! #punkypower forever! Yipppeeee,” she wrote alongside a link to a Deadline article announcing the reboot.

Last year, the 42-year-old actor revealed that her now 11-year-old daughter, Jagger Joseph Blue, has caught the acting bug as well.

“My 10-year-old is obsessed and asks me every day,” Frye told People. “I keeping telling her, ‘Okay, just a little longer, we’ll see.’ But she is yearning in every way. Every single day she begs to be in the business, in to be in front of the camera or on stage. I encourage her to do plays. She really, really loves performing.”

If she decides to take the plunge, her mom can share plenty of advice. Will you watch the “Punky Brewster” reboot?
