Adele looks amazing in her latest Instagram post, which she shared on May 6, and in which she thanked followers for their good wishes on her 32nd birthday.

“Thank you for the birthday love,” she wrote. “I hope you’re all staying safe and sane during this crazy time. I’d like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels.”

In the pic, Adele wears a short black dress with voluminous sleeves (from Amsterdam-based design label Elzinga), which is now — unsurprisingly — sold out, according to The Independent. She’s framed by a giant floral arch on the grounds of her Los Angeles home.

It’s the star’s first Instagram post since Dec. 23, 2019, so it’s naturally caused quite a stir. But the main focus has been on one aspect of her appearance: her weight. Not her birthday, not her beautiful floral arch, not the fact that she’s made a very rare appearance on social media. Seemingly, the whole world is only concerned about one thing — the fact that she takes up less space than she used to. Worryingly, the media never gets bored of reporting on famous women who’ve lost weight.

Adele’s certainly not the first celebrity whose dress size has become a global obsession, and there’s no denying that she looks amazing. But hasn’t she always?

Instead of congratulating yet another woman on becoming a smaller version of herself, maybe we could concentrate on the fact that she looks really, really happy. Or we could remind ourselves of what she’s really famous for — making incredible records — and wonder if this recent appearance on social media is a sign that maybe, someday soon, she’ll drop that new album she mentioned at her friend’s wedding.

Fingers crossed that, sometime soon, we’ll have some new tunes from this powerhouse singer!
