Alcoholic popsicles are coming to Aldi stores, but there’s a catch

The discount grocery store Aldi is about to make life better than ever. This summer, they’re going to be selling alcoholic popsicles, and we can’t wait. It’s basically a cocktail on a stick disguised as a dessert, which means you can have one anytime of day.

The boozy pops come in two different flavors: Prosecco and Peach Bellini and the classic Gin and Tonic. Both flavors sound amazing, but I’m definitely going to snag the Prosecco and Peach Bellini pack first.

True to the low-cost philosophy of Aldi stores, each four-pack of pops costs less than $5, which is an amazing price-per-pop. The alcoholic popsicles contain 4.5 percent ABV per pop, which is the same amount of alcohol as the average beer contains. So even if you eat two in one sitting, you won’t be totally sloshed.

Here’s the catch (and it’s kind of a big one, I’m sorry to say): these are only available in Aldi stores in the U.K. This is incredibly unfair, we know, but hopefully Aldi will hear our pleas from across the Atlantic and put these alcoholic popsicles into stores stateside very soon.

In the meantime, to soothe your soul, there are still plenty of places in America where you can combine dessert and a drink with no judgment. You can get liquor-y ice cream from Tipsy Scoop, which comes in flavors like Strawberry Rhubarb Bourbon and Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel. (You can order online, or if you live in the tristate area, Tipsy Scoop is opening a brick and mortar store in New York City soon.)

If you prefer your dessert hoppy, there’s The Ice Cream Bar, which is beer-infused ice cream and sorbet. Order pints like Malted Milk Chocolate Stout and Honey IPA, along with seasonal flavors and limited-release beer pairings.

Then there’s Mercer’s Wine Ice Cream, which can be ordered online as well and comes in wine-inspired flavors like Peach White Zinfandel and Chocolate Merlot. Finally, for the serious cocktail enthusiasts, check out Buzz Pop Cocktails. These Italian sorbets are infused with cocktails, and pack an extremely hefty ABV punch—from 10 percent to 12 percent per pop. Unfortunately, you can’t order them online, but we hope that feature arrives soon.

Finally, if you want to DIY, you can make your own. We love this recipe for rosé popsicles with grapefruit and blackberry. Remember: if you can drink it, you can freeze it. Get seven more boozy popsicle recipes here.
