Aldi Announces Recall On Frozen Peas

If you were planning to make peas for dinner, check the label. On April 4, Aldi issued a voluntary recall on their frozen sweet peas.

Stating that they are doing so out of an abundance of caution, the discount supermarket chain opted to recall the vegetables due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The frozen peas were removed from stores immediately upon notification from the vendor of a potential contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that causes the infection listeriosis. Symptoms of listeriosis include flu-like fatigue, muscle aches and fever, along with diarrhea, headache and stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Symptoms typically appear within one to four weeks of eating contaminated foods. Invasive listeriosis often requires hospital care. It can cause miscarriage or stillbirth during pregnancy, and is especially dangerous for anyone who is pregnant, over 65 or with a weakened immune system.

No illnesses related to this recall have been reported. The recall does not affect any other products.

The recalled sweet peas were sold only in Aldi supermarkets in Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

Recall Details
