Aldi is now partnering with Instacart to offer grocery delivery

Aldi

European grocery store chain Aldi has built an enthusiastic and loyal customer base in the United States by offering a wide range of store-brand products at prices that are often lower than Wal-Mart’s. With 1,700 stores currently operating in the U.S., and a whopping 2,500 more set to open in the next five years, Aldi fans have a lot to celebrate. And now, even more good news: Aldi just announced a partnership with Instacart to offer grocery delivery.

If you’ve never used Instacart before, it’s a personal shopping and grocery delivery service famous for its convenience and fast delivery times: Just choose your items online from a grocery store partner in your area and an Instacart personal shopper will do your shopping for you, delivering your groceries to your door in as little as an hour. Currently, stores such as Whole Foods, Costco and even Sur La Table offer Instacart delivery service. The fees for an Instacart delivery usually range from $5.99 to $7.99 per order, but your first order is free if you want to give it a try.

Instacart delivery will be available at Aldi stores in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Dallas later this month. And if all goes well, people across the country should be able to get deliveries from their local Aldi in the near future.

Aldi’s ambitious expansion plans and Instacart partnership come in the midst of a highly competitive, uncertain time for grocery stores in general. With Amazon’s recent acquisition of Whole Foods, and the popularity of their Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service, competitors are feeling the pressure to cut prices, add perks and find new, creative ways to draw in and retain customers.

While it’s uncertain what the grocery store hierarchy will look like in a year or five years, for now, customers can use the competition to their benefit. It’s a great time to be a comparison shopper! Also, if you’re looking for ways to make some extra money, Instacart is always looking for personal shoppers, and with Aldi joining their roster of stores, that customer base is only going to grow.
