Alton Brown’s ‘Good Eats’ reboot is finally happening

Fans of Alton Brown’s classic show “Good Eats” have been waiting since 2017 for the return of the popular TV show. Brown announced a reboot during Dragon Con 2017, telling the audience new episodes would premiere sometime in 2018. After two years, the wait finally appears to be almost over. Brown confirmed the updated version of his cooking series has a release date!

“Good Eats: The Return” is scheduled to debut on the Food Network at Sunday, August 25 at 10 p.m. ET. In his video, Brown talks to fans from the set of the new show, where cast and crew look busy filming the newest episodes. And, if you just cannot get enough of the scientist/historian/chef on premiere night, then you can follow him on social media, where he promised to be broadcasting live during the first episode!

In the time between Brown’s 2017 announcement of the new show and now, Brown has not only been busy preparing “Good Eats: The Return,” but also released a limited run of 13 episodes known as “Good Eats Reloaded.” These shows take a number of the original “Good Eats” shows (which ran from 1999 to 2012 on the Food Network and Cooking Channel) and re-visit the dishes with updated information and recipes. They’re available on the Cooking Channel.

“Let’s face it, some of those shows are 18 years old, and I look at some of them now and I’m like, Oh crap, I really wish I had done this instead of this,” he admitted to Food & Wine. “I’m going back and making those repairs.”

Like the original series, Brown intends each episode to tie into a central theme, where he will dig into the food or drink’s historical and cultural significance. He is also known for taking a more scientific and practical approach to the dishes he prepares on the show. In other words, Brown isn’t just about making the dishes look good, he wants the audience to understand why they are worth making in the first place.

So, as Brown suggested in his Instagram video, get those invites out for your “Good Eats: The Return” viewing party on Sunday, August 25!
