In a move no doubt timed to whet our Prime appetites as the holiday shopping season edges closer, The Big A has thrown in free access (for Amazon Prime subscribers) to audio books as well as to its Audible Channels.
Audible Channels was launched a couple of months ago, and “offers bits of ad-free content like audio editions of pieces from publishers like The Wall Street Journal, The Onion, The New York Times and Charlie Rose, while other selections are from original content producers,” according to The Consumerist. If you aren’t a Prime member, it would cost $4.95 a month.Photo by Canonicalized
Primesters (is that a word?) will also now have free access to a rotating menu of over 50 audio book titles—sort of like the Kindle Lending Library. Look for celebrity-narrated classics like Scarlett Johansson’s performance of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” top-rated audiobooks like Matthew Quick’s “The Silver Linings Playbook” and Anne Lamott’s “Stitches.” There are also family-friendly options like “The Velveteen Rabbit.”
