These theaters are now offering sensory-friendly movies
If you have children with sensory disorders, autism or any other special needs, you’re most likely aware that a trip to the movies might not be their favorite thing. The dark room, the loud noise — such an outing can more be unpleasant than it is fun.
That’s why AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas are now offering sensory-friendly movie options. Your kids can enjoy a trip to the movies without the negative stimuli they might experience if they were to see a regular movie at the theater.
AMC has partnered with the Autism Society to offer the sensory-friendly movies. At the showings, the lights will be turned up while the sound is turned down. Kids can even get up, dance, walk, shout or sing right in the theater. The program will offer family-friendly movies on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. If you have an older child or are an adult with sensory issues, AMC will also show sensory-friendly films for a more mature audience on Tuesday evenings.
Not all AMC theaters are participating in the program, so be sure to check your local theater for showtimes and ticket prices, if available.
Regal Cinemas’ My Way Matinee program is similar to AMC’s, allowing everyone to experience a trip to the movies. The lights will be turned up and the volume turned down, which makes it a safe space where guests can express themselves by singing, crying, dancing, talking, or otherwise expressing themselves.
All My Way Matinee screenings begin at 10:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of the month at participating theaters for a discounted ticket price. Check listings at your local Regal Cinema and contact individual locations to find out how much ticket prices are there.
Are you part of a family who would love to attend a sensory-friendly movie? Or do you know one? Tell them all about it!
