Every once in a while, an act walks onto the “America’s Got Talent” stage that surprises everyone.

When 12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer took the AGT stage with her bunny puppet, she had a few surprises in store for everyone. In fact, she made for a memorable season premiere for the popular NBC reality series.

Bringing Back A Vintage Art?

Let’s be honest. Few people think of ventriloquism as an  exciting skill. Some may even say it’s too old-fashioned for today’s audiences.

Of course, comedian Jeff Dunham became an exception to that rule. However, what could a young girl with a cute puppet possibly do to earn a trip to the next round of AGT?

As you can see from her segment below, perennial skeptic Simon Cowell didn’t look too enthusiastic as Darci Lynne took the stage.

After a few nervous (but adorable) giggles and introductions, though, the young contestant did something pretty extraordinary.

Farmer and her rabbit, Petunia, sang a fabulous duet of “Summertime”— well, Petunia did most of the singing. The judges and audience couldn’t get over Farmer’s expertise in the challenging art of ventriloquism. This wasn’t a young girl simply playing around with a puppet. She has some amazing skills!

After bringing the audience and judges to their feet, Farmer couldn’t help but smile at the reaction. But when Mel B. pushed the AGT Golden Buzzer, the girl burst into happy tears!

“You made my heart melt,” the former Spice Girl told the excited preteen.

By earning a Golden Buzzer, Lynne automatically advances to the live shows. It’s a rare honor — each judge only gets one chance to hit the buzzer.

Keeping The Golden Secret

Since the initial rounds of “America’s Got Talent” tape in advance, Farmer could not tell anyone the results of her audition. However, she invited some friends over to her house to watch the show Tuesday night.

Good luck in the live shows Darci Lynne and Petunia. We’ll be watching you!
