An entire New York subway car started singing Backstreet Boys together and the video will make you smile

New Yorkers have a reputation for being a little gruff, but a subway car full of them turned that notion on its head when they all started singing “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys in unison. Wait. Really?

It can be frustrating when someone plays their music too loudly on public transportation. But the passengers on one particular subway ride took it in stride that day when someone boarded the car while blasting the hit boy band tune. Instead of asking him to turn it down, they decided to embrace the music and sing along. More and more people joined in, and soon a full-on singalong was underway.

One of the passengers, Joel Wertheimer, caught some video footage of the endearing moment and posted it to Twitter. It has been re-tweeted more than 13,000 times:

“Had a really tough week and tonight I was [on] the subway and some guy walks between the train cars, shirtless, bumping a speaker,” he wrote. “I wasn’t in the mood for Showtime particularly. But sometimes people and life surprise you and a little magic happens.”

Who knew the Backstreet Boys could bring a whole train car full of people from different walks of life together to engage in a wholesome singalong?

When the band caught wind of the video, they shared it on their official Twitter account, writing, “We live for moments like this”:

Member Nick Carter also shared the video, calling it “amazing”:

Aww! It’s nice to know that something so simple can unite strangers.

This isn’t the first time a group of people engaged in a BSB singalong. Back in 2018, some MTV employees were on an elevator when they were joined by the Backstreet Boys themselves. Soon, everyone started singing a medley of the boy band’s greatest hits. Check it out in the video below:

BSB forever!
