Comedian and “Brooklyn 99” star Andy Samberg and musician Joanna Newsom are an extremely private couple.
If you need proof, check out Samberg’s Instagram account, which boasts over 61,000 followers and just one photo—of Andy and his band The Lonely Island—directing fans to follow The Lonely Island’s page for updates.
So despite being such a high-profile celebrity pairing, it’s no surprise that Samberg and his wife stay out of the spotlight in their personal life as much as possible.
Case in point: Newsom and Samberg got married in a secret ceremony in Big Sur in 2013, after five years of dating.
And approximately nine months ago, Newsom got pregnant. How do we know? Because the couple just subtly confirmed the birth of their first child to Us Weekly.
All we knew before then is that they were thinking of children, according to an interview Newsom had with Larry King back in 2015.
Now that their baby has entered the world, they haven’t revealed any details besides the baby’s gender—it’s a girl!—in accordance with their commitment to privacy.
Newsom and Samberg reportedly got together after the then-Saturday Night Live star Samberg developed a crush on Newsom and began attending her shows regularly.
The two dated under the radar for years before tying the knot. Newsom is an accomplished harpist, pianist, singer and actress. In a 2013 interview with Glamour, Samberg, who’s famous for his musical parodies, discussed the possibility of collaborating with his future wife.
“We’ve talked about [collaborating],” he said. “But we’ve decided ultimately that her fans would probably kill me in my sleep. What she does is so, like, actually beautiful and important.”
Better safe than sorry when passionate music fans are involved! That’s OK though—we’re just glad we get to enjoy Newsom and Samberg’s musical projects in whatever form they come in.
Congratulations to the couple on one collaboration everyone can be happy about: the new addition to their family.
