Anna Kournikova And Enrique Iglesias Just Welcomed Twins
The couple managed to keep the pregnancy secret for nine months!
Surprise! Pop singer Enrique Iglesias and former professional tennis player Anna Kournikova welcomed twins to the world this past weekend, E! News has confirmed.
On Saturday, Kournikova gave birth in Miami to one boy and one girl, the couple’s first children. TMZ reported that the twins are named Nicholas and Lucy. Somehow, the couple managed to keep the pregnancy secret for nine months!
Looking through Kournikova’s Instagram feed from the last several months, there does seem to be an absence of full-body shots—and she’s wearing baggy tops in those where her full body is pictured:
Kournikova’s most recent Instagram, from Sunday, shows her on what appears to be a boat on the water in Miami. If the TMZ timeline holds up, chances are Kournikova wasn’t out boating on Sunday—so perhaps it was an older photo she decided to share to keep the public guessing about her baby news.
The couple have been together for over 16 years and have done a very good job at keeping their relationship private. The two met back in 2001 on Iglesia’s “Escape” music video set when she was 20 and he was 26.
What’s ironic is that despite their extremely private relationship to date, much of the beginning of the couple’s relationship, even their first kiss, was caught on camera by MTV’s “Making of the Video.” Kournikova, of course, played his love interest.
They made their official debut as a couple on the red carpet during MTV’s Video Music Awards in 2002—when Iglesias (son of Spanish singer Julio Iglesias) was busy hitting the pop charts and Kournikova was at the top of her tennis game (she won the Australian Open in Women’s Doubles that year with her partner, Martina Hingis.)
And though many speculate the two have officially tied the knot, no one knows for sure.
Back in 2011, Kournikova made her intentions on having kids one day clear.
“I absolutely want to have children, whether I have my own or adopt,” a then-30-year-old Kournikova told Women’s Health. “I love taking care of people.”
And as for her thoughts on marriage:
“[Marriage] isn’t important to me. I’m in a happy relationship — that’s all that matters,” Kournikova told Women’s Health. “I believe in commitment. I believe in being open and trusting each other and respecting each other completely.”
Throughout the years Kournikova has been spotted with various large diamonds on her ring finger, but she still hasn’t confirmed whether they’ve made it legal.
Regardless of being married or not, 16 years is 16 years, and congrats to the happy couple on their newborn twins! Now we can only ask that Kournikova and Iglesias make an exception to their devotion to privacy just this once so that may catch a glimpse of their darling faces.
