After worries of a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple’s iPhone 12 was released on time last October with a slew of new features and in a handful of colors like mint green, navy blue and red.

But while some people are already setting their sights on this year’s release of the iPhone 13, Apple quietly released a new version of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. While the features are the same, you can now get the new phone in a metallic purple color, darker than the shade of purple offered in the iPhone 11. Apple says the new shade accentuates the aluminum edges of the new model.

Both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini feature a dual-camera system that Apple says delivers the highest-quality video in a smartphone, edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays and a Ceramic Shield front cover, which provides the biggest jump in durability ever on iPhone. It also includes the fastest chip in a smartphone, the A14 Bionic, and includes a new line of accessories.

The iPhone 12 is the same size as the iPhone 11 — 6.1 inches — but the iPhone 12 mini comes in at 5.4 inches, making it the smallest 5G smartphone in the world. Both models are water-resistant up to six meters for up to 30 minutes and are protected against everyday spills, including coffee and soda.

The purple versions of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order beginning April 23, with availability beginning April 30.

Because a brand-new cell phone without a case is a terrifying thought, Apple is also releasing silicone, leather and clear cases that snap onto the back of the iPhone. The cases come in even more colors than the phone itself, with the silicone case offering a dozen color options. They will all work with MagSafe, which allows you to charge the phone wirelessly.

Are you a fan of the new purple color for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini?
