Ariana Grande is almost unrecognizable on new Vogue cover

Ariana Grande has always been known for her signature brunette ponytail, but on a recent cover shoot for British Vogue magazine, the pint-sized songstress ditched the pony. And she looks like a completely different — yet still gorgeous — person! The July cover had fans across the globe thinking “Wait, is that really her?”

In an uncharacteristic move, Grande wore her hair down her back, which is a style she generally avoids due to all the damage her hair has endured over the years in show business.

As she once explained to curious fans on Instagram, “My actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down … As annoying as it is for y’all to look at the same hairstyle all the time, it’s all that works for now (and I’m comfortable for the first time in years).”

But, now it seems Grande is starting to feel more comfortable with a style other than a ponytail, and if this U.K. Vogue cover shoot is any indication, her hair doesn’t look “absurd” at all!

Oh, and did we mention she went blond? Yep, that was another big shocker for fans who saw the virtually unrecognizable Grande with lighter, brighter hair than she has had in ages.

Eagle-eyed fans might also notice something else different about the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer: She also has a few new freckles! No, that’s not the work of the sun, but rather a makeup artist. Mark Carrasquillo not only added a few delicate freckles along her nose and cheekbones, he also opted to go for a matte, neutral look, shying away from Grande’s usual bold makeup.

The result? Pure perfection!

British Vogue’s Giles Hattersley interviewed Grande for the cover story where she talks about her career and dealing with symptoms of post-traumatic stress after the Manchester bombing that occurred during her concert there in May 2017.

Hair stylist Chris Appleton styled Grande’s locks for the cover shoot, and he shared a black-and-white shot on Instagram congratulating Grande and British Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful on the feature.

Grande looks fresh, youthful and sophisticated … although I have to admit I hope she doesn’t ditch her signature pony for good.

While Grande’s been wearing her signature pony tail pretty consistently for the last several years, she has worn a different hairstyle on some other occasions.

Back when she got her start — as a fresh-faced 15-year-old in the Broadway musical “13” — she wore her naturally dark, wavy locks down.

After taking on her role as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon show “Victorious,” Grande had to dye her hair red on the regular for her role.

While she would occasionally wear a pony tail back then, it wasn’t until her solo musical career started taking off that she started wearing her signature high pony on the regular.

Though she did wear her hair down for a few appearances during that breakout period, including at the MTV European Music Awards in Scotland in 2014.
