Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Son Recreated His Dad’s Iconic Bodybuilding Pose—And He looks Just Like Him

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s youngest son is following in his father’s footsteps.

Joseph Baena, 21, posted on his Instagram account on Jan. 13, showing off his muscular build.

“Just a lil thicc,” he captioned the photo.

If the pose looks familiar, that’s because it’s one that Papa Arnold himself made famous when he was Mr. Olympia.

In this 1976 photo, Schwarzenegger shows off his 3/4 back pose. He won the Mr. Olympia competition seven times.

Baena bears a striking resemblance to his father, even if he’s not quite as muscular as the former Mr. Universe and action film star.

At 71, Schwarzenegger still has the moves himself. Here he is in the same pose in 2017 at a bodybuilding competition.

There’s even a statue in Columbus, Ohio, commemorating Arnold’s classic physique.

Baena’s Instagram account includes a lot of fitness-themed images and videos, so it seems that he’s interested in pursuing a similar career to his dad.

One of his recent posts shows a clip of him flexing his arms with the caption, “It’s only the beginning,” which makes one wonder how big Baena plans to get.

Baena, a Pepperdine University undergraduate, is Schwarzenegger’s son with his former housekeeper, Mildred Baena. The revelation in 2011 that Schwarzenegger fathered an out-of-wedlock son while married to his wife, Maria Shriver, eventually led to Shriver and Schwarzenegger’s split.

But things seem to have settled down since then as both Baena and Schwarzenegger have publicly posted about each other on social media.

On Jan. 18, Baena posed with his dad and other strongmen in the gym to promote the upcoming Arnold Sports Festival, saying, “Getting a great pump with some of the strongest men in the world!”

On Baena’s 21st birthday, Schwarzenegger posted, “It’s been fantastic to watch you pump up your muscles and your mind this year and I can’t wait to see what’s next. I’m proud of you and I love you!”

In a 2017 Instagram post, Schwarzenegger called Baena “a fantastic son and a great training partner.”

And in 2015, Schwarzenegger posted a photo with Baena at Oktoberfest in Munich, both sporting lederhosen and toasting with large mugs of beer.

Baena returned the favor in a 2017 Father’s Day post, also showing father and son in a beer garden wearing lederhosen. “Happy Father’s Day to the man that’s almost as big as I am ❤️” he teased.

You may have noticed that The Arnold concludes his birthday posts to Joseph with “I’m proud of you and I love you!” He also does this on birthday posts for his four other children, all with Shriver: Katherine, 29, Christina, 27, Patrick, 25, and Christopher, 21.

For example, on son Christopher’s birthday in 2018, he wrote, “Happy birthday Christopher! You’re a better student than I ever was, and you have the biggest heart I’ve ever seen. I’m so proud of you and I love you.”

Christopher is a University of Michigan student and less than a week older than Joseph.

As for the other Schwarzenegger kids, oldest daughter, Katherine, recently got engaged to actor Chris Pratt. Eldest son, Patrick, has an interest in fitness, too, but he’s focusing on his acting career for now, according to his dad. Youngest daughter, Christina, is a film producer.
