‘Avengers: Endgame’ is coming back to theaters with new footage

Just when it seemed like “Avengers: Endgame” wasn’t quite going to manage to steal the box-office crown from “Avatar,” Marvel Studios top exec Kevin Feige pulled a rabbit out of his hat. He has announced that the film is shortly heading back to theaters with some new footage.

“Avatar” currently holds the domestic box office record, with a global gross of $2,787,965,087. But with “Endgame” hot on its heels at $2,742,491,359, it won’t take much for “Endgame” to wrench the title from James Cameron’s 2009 film.

And it sounds like Marvel has hatched quite the plan to get us back in those seats.

In interviews this week during a “Spiderman: Far From Home” press junket, Feige shared loose details.

“I don’t know if it’s been announced,” he told Comicbooks.com. “And I don’t know how much … Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”

Meanwhile, he told Screen Rant that rather than an extended cut of the film, fans will get more footage after the credits. “If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises,” he said.

Still Enjoying The ‘Endgame’

The epic culmination of 10 years and 22 films brought fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to their proverbial knees, with [SPOILER ALERT!] some of the franchise’s most beloved characters finally meeting their fate and bidding a final farewell to fans.

Of course, there was some controversy over how certain heroes’ fates were handled, but many MCU fans loved the humor, emotional impact, and references to past movies that tied the universe together. They gave it a 94% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The shocking end came mostly to the surprise of theatergoers. This happened thanks to an aggressive #DontSpoilTheEndgame campaign from directors the Russo Brothers to keep fans from spilling the beans until everyone who wanted to got their chance to experience the earth-shattering finale. The film’s star-studded cast also joined in, urging fans to adhere to the spoiler ban.

Bridging The Gap To ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

If the box-office haul is any indication, it’s safe to say that by now most MCU devotees have seen “Endgame” at least once. However, the announcement that they’ll get another chance will come as a pleasant surprise to those who’ve been counting the days until the release of the next Marvel film, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” out July 2, 2019.

“Far From Home” will be the last Avengers-related movie to come out in 2019 (an announcement may take place at San Diego Comic-Con next month to provide details on Avengers Phase 4 releases).

In the most recent “Endgame” spoiler-packed trailer for the new Spider-Man film, we learned that “Far From Home” more or less picks up right where “Endgame” has left off, with Spider-Man coming to terms with a major loss and, of course, finding his friendly neighborhood spider services sorely needed while on a European vacation.

Now, speculation abounds that the post-credits “Endgame” footage will almost certainly allude to the events in “Far From Home.” Here’s the official trailer from Sony Pictures Entertainment’s YouTube page.

Which begs the question — if we truly want the full picture, do we all have to race back to the theater to see “Endgame” one last time before it’s time for Spidey? Let’s just say I know where I’ll be next weekend.

Marvel Studios has not released official details about the re-release. We’ll update this article when we know more.
