This Awesome LEGO Hair Helmet Could Help Save Lives

Moef

It’s hard to find someone who jumps for joy over the idea of putting on a helmet. In fact, less than half of the Americans who ride a bicycle put on the protective gear, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is a shame, as not wearing a helmet can greatly increase your risk of a head injury.

Considering roughly half of serious bike accidents occur in children and adolescents under the age of 20, it’s important to encourage your children to wear their protective gear when biking, and some brilliant minds are trying to make this easier.

To help make helmets more appealing, advertising agency DBB and Danish design firm MOEF came up with the idea of a “Lego Hair Helmet,” a bicycle helmet designed to look like the distinctive plastic hair of Playmobil and LEGO figurines. What kid wouldn’t want to turn into a real-life LEGO character?

Unfortunately, the helmet is currently only a prototype, but Mental Floss reports that the designers are petitioning for LEGO to take a look at the helmet for mass production.

Considering many adults are also LEGO and Playmobil fans—and should also stay safe while riding—this could be a win-win for everyone.

Not only do helmets produce unwanted “helmet hair,” many of them look downright clunky and unattractive. Adding some fun into wearing a helmet is where it’s at.
