Baby Rhino Splashes Around In His First-Ever Shower And It’s Adorable

Sometimes a hot shower is all you need to feel revitalized and ready to take on whatever the world throws your way. That certainly seems to be the case for an 11-day-old greater one-horned rhino the Toronto Zoo who was enjoying his first shower. Check out the adorable footage below:

Too cute! He certainly seems to be having fun splashing around. In their post, the zoo explained that the baby rhino had first been exposed to water at four-days-old, but he was a bit too young to know what to make of it at the time. Ever since his birth, the zoo has continued to post updates on the baby rhino’s progress as he begins exploring his world.

On Jan. 25, the zoo let his admirers know that he weighed in at 100.1 kg, or about 220 pounds. He has gained about 4.6 pounds each day since he was born on Jan. 4. Talk about a growing boy!

This baby rhino’s birth was a significant step in the conservation of the greater one-horned rhino. Also known as the Indian rhino, the species is currently listed as “Vulnerable” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. There are only approximately 3,500 of the species left in the wild. While that is an increase from when the greater one-horned rhinos were listed as “Endangered,” it is still critical that the species are protected and continue to breed.

The Toronto Zoo explained their involvement in the conservation effort in a Facebook post:

“The Toronto Zoo is part of the Greater One-Horned Rhino Species Survival Plan (SSP), which aims to establish and maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations, and overall conservation efforts to save this incredible species. The Zoo supports rhinoceros conservation efforts in the wild through keeper driven events and the Toronto Zoo Endangered Species Reserve Fund.”
