Ever wondered what would happen if Barbie starred in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise? No? Well, at least one guy did.
Edwin Olding of the YouTube channel Grind Hard Plumbing Co. took a Barbie Power Wheels Ford Mustang and decided to put an actual go-kart engine in it. Because that is the kind of things dudes do when they have too much time on their hands.
“I wanted to find the cutest Barbie Power Wheels car online and turn it into a drift kart,” Olding told The Drive.
According to Amazon, Barbie’s Mustang (which costs about $340) is designed to go about 2.5 mph on its first speed, or a blazing 5 mph on its second speed setting.
But when Olding and his team were done tinkering with the pink Mustang, it could do a whopping 70 mph — which is about 65 mph more than it was designed to go! The only thing missing is a NOS button.
Naturally, Olding then took the new-and-improved Mustang out to do donuts and race up and down the road.
Now, it is highly unlikely you have a tricked-out Barbie kids car that can break the speed limit sitting in your garage. But just in case, let me put this warning out there — please do not do this at home.
That looked fun, except for the part where Olding almost drove off a cliff. His crew said the steering and the pedals didn’t respond very well, but again, they were also driving it about 14 times faster than the speed it was designed for. So I doubt we’re going to see a Barbie racing circuit any time soon.
But at least we have an idea for the newest doll in Mattel’s line: Race car driver Barbie!
