Barefoot is introducing a hard seltzer for wine lovers

Barefoot

Cracking open a can of hard seltzer on a hot summer day (or cold winter day — why not?) hits all the right spots. It’s light, fizzy, usually fruity and has just enough alcohol to make whatever event you’re at or whatever you’re doing that much better. Plus, they’re pretty low in calories when compared to other alcoholic drinks.

One thing that has been missing, however, is a hard seltzer made for the wine lovers out there (i.e. me). That is, until now. Barefoot Wine is officially bringing wine to the seltzer category with the first-ever nationally distributed hard seltzer made with real wine!

The new alternative to beer and lighter-bodied alternative to wine is made with three main ingredients: Barefoot Wine, seltzer water and natural flavor. Each 250 mL can has 70 calories, 2 grams of sugar, 4% alcohol by volume and is gluten-free.

The new wine seltzers will begin rolling out to stores nationwide and on Barefoot’s website in February, but it will likely be spring before you see it at most major retailers. A single can costs around $1.99, while a four-pack is $7.99 and a variety 12-pack costs $19.99.

Four flavors include Pineapple & Passionfruit, Cherry & Cranberry, Peach & Nectarine and Strawberry & Guava. You could say they are similar to a wine cooler, in a sense, as they are bubbly and have wine and fruity flavors.

“At Barefoot, we are passionate about creating products that meet the various lifestyles and tastes of our diverse consumer base,” Anna Bell, vice president of marketing at Barefoot, said in a press release. “With Barefoot Hard Seltzer, we wanted to create a delicious and light-bodied, wine-based hard seltzer that can be enjoyed at home, on the go, or with family and friends.”

These seltzers come after the success of Barefoot spritzers released in 2016. Unlike the new seltzers, the spritzers are more like sparkling wine — flavors include Moscato and Pinot Grigio.

While you wait for the new Barefoot seltzers to hit store shelves near you, you may want to try these 100 calorie lemonade seltzers from Truly. While they don’t contain wine, they come in four lemonade flavors and have a bit more alcohol content than Barefoot’s spritzers, at 5% alcohol by volume.
