8 Beautiful Garden Flowers That Require Almost No Maintenance

If you’re anything like me, any flower you put in a pot winds up shriveled and dead. I just don’t have a green thumb. Fortunately, there are some great plant options for people who don’t have the time or expertise to care for flowers.

If you want low-maintenance plants, try out these eight flowers that are easy to care for and should work in your garden. With these flowers, you can still have a beautiful outdoor space without a lot of work.

1. Lantana

These are self-cleaning plants (no deadheading needed, in most cases!) that love the sun. They bloom in multiple colors and are deer-resistant. They grow best on hot days, so don’t be surprised if they take some time to get growing. They can grow as perennials in frost-free climates but are annuals in colder regions.


2. Calibrachoa

This is a great cascading plant that is self-cleaning and deer-resistant. It comes in multiple gorgeous colors and can survive in both full sun or partial shade.

3. Coleus

Coleus has beautiful leaves and thrives in partial shade. Also called painted nettle or poor man’s croton, this plant is known for easy rooting.

4. New Guinea Impatiens

A New Guinea Impatiens is a great plant for the sun that comes in a variety of colors. Again, no deadheading is required with these beauties.

5. Angelonia

This is another great self-cleaning flower. The dead foliage dries up and pretty much disappears. Angelonia comes in a variety of pretty colors and it thrives in full sun.

6. Wave Petunias

Wave petunias just keep blooming and blooming with an abundance of color, and they’re available in a variety of eye-popping hues. While they require a bit of deadheading, their constant color is worth it. They can survive in partial sun but not in shade.

7. Sweet Potato Vine

Sweet potato vine is a great complement to add to a flower box. The vines grow very quickly and provide a cool falling effect when used in flower boxes.

8. Geraniums
