A ‘Beauty and the Beast’ spin-off show is coming to Disney+

“Beauty and the Beast” is a Disney classic — and it’s not all about Belle and her prince-turned-monster. Two of the supporting characters have always been favorites with viewers, and they’re finally getting their chance to be in the limelight. Love ’em or hate ’em, arrogant hunter Gaston and his sidekick Le Fou are getting a spin-off on the small screen.

Composer Alan Menken told Variety that the six-episode Disney+ TV series will be a “Beauty and the Beast” prequel called “The Little Town,” which is a reference to a line in the film’s opening song, “Belle.”

Luke Evans and Josh Gad, who played the duo in the 2017 live-action remake of the film, will reprise their roles for the spin-off.

“We feel so lucky to have this talented group of people creating a story about two much-loved and much-hated characters,” Evans told Collider.

The actor added that he and Gad “are literally vibrating with excitement to shoot it.” However, Evans didn’t give away any hints about whether a softer side of Gaston would be revealed.

“You’ll just have to wait and see. That’s all I’m going to say,” he said.

The news was welcomed by fans of the villainous Gaston, such as Twitter user @StardustNova27 who tweeted her affection for the dastardly character on Aug. 4.

If the success of “Beauty and Beast” is anything to go by, “The Little Town” is sure to be a huge hit. The live-action “Beauty and the Beast” was the biggest movie released in 2017, taking more than $1.26 billion in global ticket sales and ranking No. 1 in its first weekend.

But its popularity didn’t peak in 2017 — Deadline reported that it was the top movie in the U.S. just last month, due to being screened at drive-in theaters during the COVID-19 pandemic.
