These birthday decorations tell you everything that was happening the year you were born
It’s always fun to think about what everyday life was like when we arrived on the scene. Maybe some sense of the larger world imprinted itself on you as an infant — but you don’t remember any of it!
Katie Doodle solves that problem with cute posters that give a rundown of the major news and cultural events in the year you were born.
The company produces posters for big “milestone” birthdays, like age 13 (when you’re officially a teenager) and age 50 (when you might have a teenager).
For example, my 40th birthday is coming up later this year. There’s a poster, printed on card stock, all set and ready to go on the Katie Doodle Amazon page.
I learned that a new home cost something like $71,800 and a gallon of milk was $1.62 in 1979. Margaret Thatcher was elected prime minister of the U.K., and disco ruled the charts.
It was also a great year for movies (if I do say so myself), including classics like “Alien,” “Mad Max,” “The Warriors” and “Life of Brian.”
The Katie Doodle posters are available for decade birthdays, plus ages 13, 16, 21 and 25. Oh, and age 1, in case you forgot what last year was like. At only $12.99, it’s a pretty good deal for a little bit of decor you can use year after year.
These posters aren’t the only “when you were born” birthday items the internet has to offer, of course. On Etsy, shoppers can find a variety of cool keepsakes to mark their birthday or the birthday of a loved one.
Seller OurLoveWasBorn offers personalized maps of the night sky on anyone’s birthdate. The maps are tied to the location of the special moment, as well. They start at $24, with prices going up depending on the options you select.
I also like these t-shirts with the birth year printed in a sweet retro font. Made by Detuli, prices start at $22.
Those are just a few personalized items you can score to impress the crowd at the birthday party — or to celebrate yourself a little bit!
