This blogger’s response to being called an ‘Old Hag’ for having gray hair is going viral

Rachel Farnsworth is a popular food blogger with more than 48,000 followers on Instagram and more than 2.7 million on Facebook. When someone commented on one of her posts with statements meant to demean and insult her, Farnsworth came up with an inspiring response.

In a video posted to Facebook, she reveals that someone commented on her blog, “You look like you are 70 with your gray hairs. You really should consider dyeing them for TV so you don’t look like such an old hag. Just a suggestion.”

Farnsworth didn’t let this nasty message get to her — which was obviously the writer’s intended result. Instead, she took the opportunity to explain why dyeing her hair to conform to beauty standards or to look younger is not something she ever plans on doing. Watch the poignant video below:

The 31-year-old writer of The Stay At Home Chef says that, while she does have a “fair amount of gray hair,” it was her husband who convinced her not to ever dye it.

“My husband actually feels very strongly that I shouldn’t dye my hair,” she explained. “And his reasoning is that he wants us to grow old together. How cute is that?”

Farnsworth goes on to reveal that she suffers from Addison’s disease, a rare autoimmune condition that could significantly shorten her lifespan.

“Every sign of aging that I have is a sign that I’m still alive,” she says in the video as she tears up.

Because her time on Earth is limited — as all ours is — Farnsworth says she feels she doesn’t have a second to waste. She then explains that she was born with a genetic jaw deformity that caused other kids to bully her. When she was able to fix it through surgery as an adult, she believed she would be happy because of that decision. Soon, however, the change in the way she looked failed to deliver true contentment.

“Once the excitement wore off, I realized that I was just me and I was the same person I’d always been, and I still felt the exact same way about myself,” Farnworth says.

She says that although she can identify what might be considered several flaws in her physical appearance, at the end of the day, she loves every part of herself.

“The world needs more people who will build each other up instead of tearing each other down,” the writer says. “The world needs more men like my husband who are willing to encourage women to embrace who they are. The world needs more women who are willing to rock their bodies exactly the way that God made them. Be that person.”

Farnsworth’s video clearly resonated with many people, as it’s been viewed more than 12 million times and liked by more than 30,000 users so far.

What an awesome message!
