A Boy Plays And Honors Vet Who Showed Up To Canceled Memorial Day Parade [Video]

This will pull on your heartstrings.  The Memorial Day parade in North Bellmore, NY was canceled due to inclement weather, but that didn’t stop Nicholas DeGregorio from honoring a veteran who didn’t know the parade was canceled and showed up.

“Nicholas felt so bad for all of the veterans that would not have a parade in honor of all their fallen comrades,” Mary Bellissimo-DeGregorio, Nicholas’ mom, told Patch. Instead of just going home, Nicholas and his family drove the parade route and he played his trumpet out of the car window.

When they arrived at a memorial near the school, a woman approached and asked the family if the parade was canceled. When they told her it was, she said her father, a disabled WWII veteran, would be arriving shortly and would be very disappointed there was no parade.  That’s when Nicholas jumped in and volunteered to help.

Nicholas played “You’re A Grand Old Flag” on his trumpet, and as you watch the video you can see how much that made the day of the man.

“He was thrilled and Nicholas was thrilled as well,” DeGregorio shared on Facebook. “To have the opportunity to play for him and brighten his morning. Behind every cloud is a silver lining.”
